A subwoofer is a device that reproduces sounds in vehicles. People usually use subwoofer and woofer as synonymous terms. However, they are not the same because a subwoofer is a type of loudspeaker that reproduces bass and sub-bass notes, which are low-pitched audio frequencies.

A subwoofer replaces a woofer because the subwoofer can reproduce low pitched frequencies more efficiently than a woofer. Woofers and subwoofers are used in vehicles, home audio systems, cinema sound system etc. The subwoofers are one of the best audio reproducing devices because of the efficiency at which they deliver the audio to the listeners.

How to Install Subs in a Truck?

Subwoofers should be pointed or faced in a certain way so that the audio is reproduced thoroughly and without any hindrance. The way in which a subwoofer should be pointed or faced is determined by a lot of factors like individual preferences, one’s overall objective and most importantly, the make or model of the car.

A subwoofer should be compatible with the model of the car; otherwise, it will be a waste. There are many steps involved in facing the subwoofers in a truck. The most important steps among them are:

Calculate the size of the subwoofer

The first and foremost thing to do when facing a subwoofer is to calculate the size of the subwoofer for the truck. The size of the subwoofer may vary from vehicle to vehicle. The usual dimensions of the subwoofers of cars are 8, 10 and 12 inches. However, there are some subwoofers that are as big as 20 inches.

Before deciding the size of the subwoofer, it is highly advisable to measure the truck seat, as this will be the place where the subwoofers will be placed. The measurement should not be made just by keeping the subwoofer in mind. One should also keep in mind the space that the amplifiers will take.

Making space for the subs

The second step after finding the best subwoofer for the truck is to make space for the subwoofer. This is done by removing the rear seat of the truck so that the subwoofers can be placed in the hollowed-out area beneath the back seat.

The rear seat can be removed by unscrewing the bolts that hold the seat. Ratchet is very helpful in the removal of the bolts. For easier access to unscrew the bolts, the seat can be flipped.

Once all the bolts are unscrewed, the seat can be removed from the truck. For safety reasons, it is advised to flip the seat before it is removed completely. After removing the seat, there will be a center brace. This center brace is the place that holds the seat.

Placing the sub in the enclosure

The third step in the process is to install the subwoofer in the enclosure or box. To perform this step, the first and foremost thing to do is to strip the power cord of the amplifier with the help of a wire stripper.

After stripping the cord inside the subwoofer box with the help of a soldering iron, you need to solder the wires of the subwoofer to the wires of the speaker that is in the subwoofer box.

Then, you can wire the subwoofers into the two audio speakers of the vehicle. Safely place the subwoofer inside the subwoofer enclosure and then start screwing the bolts to hold the subwoofer in place. The subwoofer enclosure is ready to be installed with the subwoofer already set in it.

Working on the fuse terminal

Once the above steps are done, the next step is to connect the wire of the amplifier to that of the battery terminal of the vehicle, in this case, the truck. After this, the fuse terminal should be screwed. The fuse terminal should be screwed to an area that is very easily accessible to the user. This area is usually under the hood.

The wires that are in these steps should be very well concealed; otherwise, they would be damaged. The best way to conceal these wires is to place them under the carpet of the truck and along the trim of the door of the truck.

Connecting the stereos and amplifier

The next step is to connect the cable for the stereo to the amplifier. This is done by connecting the stereo to the amplifier wires to the RCA connections that is usually behind the stereo.

All the wires in this step should also be protected in the same way mentioned in the above step. Now, you can connect the two connectors to the port.

Wires for speakers

The next step is to fasten the wires for the speakers. While doing this step make sure to have enough cable wires before cutting them. This will ensure you have easy access to the speakers whenever you want.

Putting the seat back

The last step is to put back the seat back in the truck. The seats should be properly placed and screwed to the rear of the truck. Only when you finish this step, the entire process is deemed complete.
